The New BMW iX1

The New BMW iX1
07 March 2022

The new BMW X1 will have an all-electric variant: the BMW iX1. The BMW Group's electric offensive strategy, which plans to have 13 electric models in dealerships by 2023, has the BMW iX1 as the protagonist. As confirmed in November 2020, the BMW X1, the entry-level crossover in BMW's SUV range, will introduce its third generation this year.

The design of the BMW iX1 has a larger vertical grille, while the roofline is sportier than the current model. With its second lifecycle makeover, the BMW X1 is getting an evolutionary redesign. The roof line is to drop steeper towards the rear, which makes the 2022 BMW X1 and BMW iX1 look sportier. It is not to be expected that to follow in the footsteps of the BMW iX. The shape of the lights, grille, lower bags, tow hook cover, windshield and other elements also indicate the production model. It's also suggested that the BMW iX1 will have flush door handles, which is fast becoming a fashionable feature on electric vehicles. The new electric SUV has a sophisticated design and also improves its aerodynamic efficiency, which in turn could lead to a small reduction in energy consumption. The iX1 may also feature specially designed wheels that are lighter and allow for smoother airflow, wrapped in new noise-reducing tires.

In relation to the size of the BMW iX1, according to reports, the next gen X1 could be much larger than the current model, which could alter its positioning. While the X1 F48 is 4.45 meters (175.2 in) long, the X1 U11 could extend to 4.60 meters (181.2 in).1 inch), according to the report. This significant 0.15 meter increase  would benefit the wheelbase, resulting in a more spacious interior and the flexibility to accommodate a large battery pack.

With a stronger design, multiple range options, a lower price and greater availability than the iX3, the BMW iX1 is poised to become BMW's best-selling electric car. Reports suggest the interior of the iX1 will have a bespoke cockpit, which could mean larger and/or more advanced displays and HUDs and a distinctive steering wheel.

Additionally, the Cockpit on the new BMW iX1 is said to offer the brand's next-generation navigation with BMW Maps. The cloud-based navigation system is said to be  part of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system. BMW Maps calculates routes and estimated time of arrival or ETA with high precision.

According to bmwblog.com, the BMW iX1 will have two variants, FWD and AWD. The basic variant, known as iX1 eDrive20, is said to have less than 200 hp. The top variant called iX1 eDrive30 should offer around 250 hp. Expect the iX1 eDrive20 to be a single-motor FWD setup and the iX1 eDrive30 to be a dual-motor AWD setup.
